Dont Let them Die

Well I guess, it's the times...

Atleast that's what I hear all the time, and I can see it's happening im not blind. I know technology is growing at more than an enormouse rate. And I am as guilty as the next guy, when it comes to having the latest gizmo. But I dont know if you are aware of, and maybe you are I dont know. Maybe your as sad as me...We pay a certain price for this technology, although great, and convient and has saved me more than enough times, and im sure some of you... Sadly this technology has an ugly side, much like you have positive's & negatives in every aspect of life... it's unavoidable...

Anyway, such an uglyness has reached my backyard and maybe some of yours has been affected and you may not really know yet. What im talking about are our MAGIC SHOPS you know the ones when you walk in and the bell rings. Some of these places have been around since houdini walked the streets. And now for reasons obvious to most of us, there having to PACK-UP... Dont get me wrong some are still thriving, and have managed to keep up with the times "and I Applaud Them." But the OL' Brick & Morter I speak of...

Well let me try and express exactly what I mean... OK when I walk into my neighborhood Magic Shop, Im not there to by the latest-greatest Magic affect! Im their for the fellowship to be with people who share this love for one of the greatest Arts in all enterainment IMOPO. Sure I support them, with purchases because I know thats what keeps them open. But It's much more than that it's the Freindships... Those late night hours after the shop closes for the day, Or should i say Sessions... theres not enough mony inthe world to compare to that, helping each other out thats what it's all about... It's being in the Physical Presence of ones who live for magic... those are the things you cant acheive by ordering something via internet...

So please do me a favor, and stop by one of these old institutions and frequent them as often as you can... it doesent mean you shouldn't order Magic online. I find my self constantly searching for Items books that are no longer in print. But if you want these old places who in alot of instances cant quite afford to step up the technology, or just plain stubborn, and set in their ways "which I can heartfully understand."

Just do it, because it is the right thing to do... They don't deserve to Die...

Anyway I hope you agree with some of this rambling...

Next blog coming Soon...

Unity Through line and Sub-Text

More so then in then in a straight magic act,a dramatic productions structure must have unity. This is best defined by Aristotle's definitions relating to Greek drama, "...( the work should be ) one an entire; the parts being so connected that if any one of them should be taken away the whole act will be destroyed or changed. for whatever may be retained or omitted, without making any sensible difference, is not properly a part." The magic must be an integral part to achieve this unity.
What carries this artistic unity is what is called a throughline, which is this intangible thread that runs through the piece by which the emotional content of the play hangs. Allied to the cause of artistic unity is the sub-text which is what the work is about, but on a deep and emotional or conceptual level. The play is outwardly about two lovers, yet the sub-text may be about the nature of human love it self, etc...
